The coast of Brittany, France is graced with many types of North Atlantic seaweeds. Violaine Buet embraces this diversity by experimenting with sewing, weaving, macramé technique and other methods for transforming seaweeds into complex, naturally coloured textiles, garments and other forms. As a member of the network of the Department of Seaweed, Aalto University, Finland she is collaborating with other designers to extend our knowledge of these remarkable plants, their aesthetic and functional properties, and potential applications to develop sustainably designed and produced artefacts.
