The Archive of Vibrant Matter is a dynamic archive of artefacts, materials, living things, matter and transforming practices. It is composed of a physical archive, which will be presented within the Museum of Vibrant Matter of the Porto Design Biennale 2021, and the digital archive which you are exploring right now. At the opening on 2 June 2021, the physical archive will only be partially populated with exhibits.
This is an open archive to which all citizens are invited to contribute to by going to the Submit link. If you wish to become a “material explorer” then take a quick look at the Tools section so you can start planning your expedition!
Further exhibits will be entered into the archive during the Biennale as participants from three workshops (River, Land, Sea) and citizens from the territories of Porto and Matosinhos add further exhibits. All physical exhibits are also visible in the digital archive. The aim of the Archive of Vibrant Matter is to create a new perspective on the built, natural and hybrid environments co-created by humans and more-than-humans. By collectively observing and archiving artefacts, materials, living things, matter and transforming practices, we intend to create a new intimacy and understanding of what surrounds us everyday. Discovering histories, cultures and the entangled relationships we have as humans with our surroundings expands our understanding of mat(t)erialities.
